So yeah i have done my homework on this, and i am stumped. Most of these say its the main relay, but they all say they dont have fuel pressure. I do. I have proper fuel pressure when i try to start the car, but the spark isnt there, or if it is, its delayed. I wanted to looks at the relay for damage, but my Chiltons says nothing about it or where its located. I have a 1993 Honda prelude Vtec. We have already tested my fuel system and that has pressure, but no spark. If anyone knows how to find this damned relay everyone is talking about, i will be very happy!

If you have fuel pressure then it’s not the main relay as it turns on the fuel pump. I’m thinking that if you have no spark the igniter has failed.

Remove the distributor cap, the distributor rotor, and the inner cover.

2.Disconnect the BLACK/YELLOW, GREEN, YELLOW/GREEN, and BLUE wires from the ICM.
3.Turn the ignition switch ON. Check for voltage between the BLACK/YELLOW wire and chassis ground. There should be battery voltage.
•If there is no battery voltage, check the BLACK/YELLOW wire between the Ignition Coil and the ICM.
•If there is battery voltage, go to step 4.

4.Turn the ignition switch ON. Check for voltage between the GREEN wire and chassis ground. There should be battery voltage.
•If there is no battery voltage, check the:
          •Ignition coil.
•GREEN wire between the ignition coil and the ICM.
•If there is battery voltage, go to step 5.

5.Check the YELLOW/GREEN wire between the PGM-IG ECM and the ICM.
6.Check the BLUE wire between the tachometer and the ICM.
7.If all tests are normal, replace the ICM.

= where did you find the no spark? +1 on igniter. hear is Eric video. if the igniter turns out to be the issue. Eric says Honda’s don’t like aftermarket ignition components I would agree. He recommends OE. So you might get lucky with a used on. Also not the parts made in china are created equal, some are better then others.

I had the exact same issue, only mine was a 1993 Accord. I was driving to work one morning when my car just died out. After I managed to drift to the side of the road, it wouldn’t start again. When I managed to get the car home I did my own tests and found I wasn’t getting spark. Luckily I had a spare distributor lying around, so I threw that in and it fired up straight away. Was cheaper for me to buy a whole Brand New Distributor than it was for the parts, but it might be worth a look in that direction, as ignitors do tend to fail in that vintage of Honda.

FYI: The main relay is located under the drivers side dash. I have attached a picture which shows you where it is in your car.

Sorry for the delayed response back. I found the main relay, and that was not the problem. After testing wysetechs plan we found it was in fact the ingiter. Thank you guys for the help. Car runs like a dream now!

This video tells how to find out if it’s an igniter or a coil problem when you don’t have spark.

Glad you got it sorted out. Thanks for the update.
