This is something I think we’re all guilty of to some degree. What are your thoughts?

It has saved my butt on more than one occasion.

Guilty, but glad I do it. Comes in handy for fabrications, rebuilds, etc etc. If all else fails it goes for scrap metal! Really I love to tinker so hanging onto old parts allows me to pass time when I have time to do so. I still have the original 4L60-E +torque converter from my 2008(replaced it with a performance tranny) and the original is still sitting in the shed to this day years after the truck got trashed. Granted I could turn around and sell it for 1000-1200 bucks or so and if I needed to do that I could, as the original only has 43,000 miles on it, but I would like to hang onto it for a potential future project especially since the cores for the newer 4l60-Es are still rare to come buy in scrapyards(I wonder who the lucky bastard is who scored my performance unit that was still attached to the truck!)

got 3800 series II upper plenum and throttle body, several sets of 3800 ignition coils, W body radiator, 3800 series III throttle body, and I think a 3800 alternator, in the trunk of the car I got the old stock sized belt, and I think the stock sized water pump pulley, older spark plugs, a extra MSD wire, 3800 series II piston on the shelf in my room, and a 3800 series II con rod in the trunk, probably more, guilty as charged.

I think the reason we keep doing it is because there’s no better feeling than pulling a free part out of a pile that fixes an issue. It doesn’t happen often but when it does it’s like magic.

I also have circuit breakers, wiring plumbing pipe etc etc. You never know when you are gonna need it.

someone could use the radiator, or the alternator, so many people drive W body cars here in Michigan including several of my friends, they need a radiator, I got one… ignition coil? sure, for 3100 3400 and 3800 engines! 🙂

Definitely a hoarder of parts… Senior year of high school my dream was to start my own junk yard. Made signs and word got out I took junk. So I filled the back couple acres at the parents farm with rows and rows of cars, trucks, motorcycles, buses etc.. Had a blast doing it and selling, using, making demo cars. Thank god we were so far out in the country… All gone now except for all the good stuff I kept. You are exactly right, the more room you have, the more you keep!

this was maybe 1/3 the thing in the basement of My moms house when i was 19 its an 11ft wide row house. and getting the engines through the alleyway there was so tight it left me maybe about 1 inch or less on each side

Now I’m not kidding that wassnt even the other 2/3 of the things.
