i have a 98 chev silverado fuel pump

98 chev a/c the light on the dash comes on when i push it. i also charge the system but the compressor does not engage. i used a meter to check continuity is good and seems to be getting voltage. any answers?
May 31, 2012 at 11:00 am #446176Usually when they make noise like that they are failing. My did that but took 3 years to fail so ya never really know. Could have a compressor clutch going out, or the relay could be bad.
June 1, 2012 at 11:00 am #446177This might be better as 2 separate posts since the problems are not related. As for the fuel pump noise it could be normal, I hear it on a lot of GM’s and they last a long time, I wouldn’t replace it without some proof that it’s bad. You could check the fuel pressure and compare it to spec or you could get real fancy and look at the waveform on a lab scope like in this video.

You might also change the fuel filter and it might quiet it down.
As for AC stuff to be honest it could be 100 things and if you don’t have the proper test equipment it should really be left to a professional. At the very least you might want to take it somewhere to have it looked at, they can diagnose it and perhaps you could perform the repair.
