Just by the subject line I can hear every tech groaning, lol. We are having a problem at the shop with a mercedes, 03 C240 matic. Vibrates between 75 and 120 KPH, worst at 110. Strange thing is it doesnt always but usually does vibrate, and the rate of vibration changes. It is felt only in the seat so I say rear end. Tires have been ballanced 3 times, condition is good, no cracks, runs true. Did have 1 slightly bent rear rim first time we saw it. All bushings etc appear good. Rotated wheels to the front to eliminate a bad tire option.
I am thinking a bad bearing on the wheel that had the bend and maybe a tweeked hub. Any other thoughts? Customer won’t just let us put a bearing in it on a guess. Bearing shows no problem but with a brand new factory rim on it that wheel has a slight wobble, was worse with the bad rim also.

It’s all about how strong is the vibration. It’s could be the axle and the bearing. But bearing when It bad can be hear when you rotate the wheel by hands. Axle Bering when It fail you hear nothing. A bad ball joint can also put vibration on the car. At hight speed, the wind will lift the car whit a random paten, so you can have vibration too. I forgot to tell you about a bad strut create vibration.

Bad bearings don’t normally cause vibrations. To me it sounds like it could be a drive axle problem. Is that a RWD or FWD vehicle? If it’s FWD I’ve seen problems with inner CV joints cause this very issue. What sucks is that it’s very difficult to find out which one is the problem. A quick tip is to look for aftermarket axles. On a ‘high end’ car like that aftermarket parts don’t often work out.
