high idle when the engine is warm

I have a mitsubishi lancer 1989 model manual the problem was started when I driving and when I stop in the traffic the engine dies but the temperature is normal and then when I start it the problem began. I try to check the hoses for leak but they are all ok then Ill try to check fuel filters and the carb they are still clean.but early in the morning it is very easy to start but I cannot release the gas cause the engines will die but after a few minutes the idle will start to increase for about 1500 RPM and sometimes much higher if I adjust the idle screw the engine will stop but when it comes on uphill the car run very smoothly.I hope you can help me with this problem.Thanks in advace.

I would say look for vacuum leaks and after. As Eric mentioned you want to start with the cheapest fixes and move up from there.
