High end luxury cars P/S

I can see conventional steering systems in lower priced cars but will higher prices high end luxury vehicles ever have electronic controled real time steering systems eliminating the conventional pivot rod type system?
I’m thinking to eliminate the rack & pinion all together on just higher end vehicles.
I think the industry is getting ahead of themselves with completely automated cars. Why not work on innovating the cumbersome rack & pinion by replacing it with an electronically controlled system?

I’m pretty sure a physical connection between the steering wheel and the wheels is still legally mandated. Otherwise and electrical failure would result in a loss of steering.
