First of all I want to thank you Eric for the countless hours spent sharing your knowledge with us! I personally am saving lots of money and having fun doing it.
On a personal note, my experience is limited with auto repair/maintenance but I love doing it and learning all I can when my time allows. I have always owned Honda/Acura and Toyota vehicles and have loved them all. Currently I drive a 2000 Tundra SR5 2WD 4.7L V8 190K and I pull my Ranger boat with this truck. My wife drives a 2003 MDX Touring 150K. I just purchased a 2006 Ridgeline 110K from a friend who (other than changing the engine oil and filter)had no interest in keeping the vehicle maintained. Just not his thing I guess. I had it checked before purchase by my lifelong Honda mechanic whom I trust whole-heartedly. Since the price was very good I made the purchase. I’m in the process of completing the 110K maintenance myself.
I have completed the VTM-4 rear diff fluid change which stopped the noise while in sharp turns and the rear wheel “grabbing” while in VTM lock; Cabin and air filter (both in awful condition);oil and filter change and Transfer assembly gear oil using new crush washers on all (that’s for you Eric,HA). I think it is safe to assume that the transmission fluid has never been touched. The level is within normal limits. My burning question is should I or should I not change the
T-fluid? I’ve heard the argument on both sides. What would you guys do if it were yours? Also there is a small leak at the oil pump (per my mechanic) and I plan on changing the oil pump with the timing belt. Any advice on this job will be coveted. I am about to tackle my first J series timing belt change (with the Vmanual handy)and need to address the oil pump issue then. Sorry for the long post and look forward to sharing with you all.Michael O.
