This has been suggested before and I’ve been wanting to do a video on carburetors for years. Thing is, I just don’t see them anymore. Without a vehicle with a carburetor on it, it’s very hard to make a video. Should a vehicle with a carburetor come in I’d be happy to make some videos with it.
September 10, 2013 at 4:51 am #548128Were is your shop? I got a honda accord with a good ol carb on it.
September 10, 2013 at 5:01 am #548130Yeah……those old Honda carburetors gave a lot of people CRAP. I’m not sure if even Eric could rebuild one and make it work well. Just try an get an older Honda to pass an emission test. No wonder I’m almost bald.
September 10, 2013 at 11:15 pm #548251Man i would love to see that 3rd gen accord on ETCG!
As for the carbs, its quite true..specially the 2ed gen Prelude dual carb.. nightmare. Im glad i have the PGM-FI on my Accord! Though, the moment you do a video on carbs im grabbing some popcorn and a notepad…September 11, 2013 at 12:56 am #548257Actually I learned quite a bit about those Honda carburetors from a former boss of mine. You could say I cut my teeth on them. That said, it’s been years since I’ve worked on one. For the purposes of video I think that an old quadrajet would work better. We can work our way up to the keihin’s that were on those Hondas after the basics are covered.
September 11, 2013 at 5:25 am #548317Sounds like a good plan. If i were anywhere near you, i’d toss my Pontiac in your shop for a nice video. It needs work, so it’d be awesome.. Sadly, the drive might cost more than a new motor haha…
September 11, 2013 at 7:26 am #548336Sounds good Erick, Ill be waiting for that video, even though its not my carb on my car it should still give me knowledge on how to diagnose my carb. And then when you do get a honda carb 1986 by keihin then well be in biz lol. Btw My names Nate. “Stay dirty”

Eric, I have a couple Rochester’s here, one is a feedback Carb, I’m not sure how much shipping would be from Canada, but I’d need them back, you won’t need to put a kit in either one, I can do those carbs blind.

I appreciate the offer but without a vehicle to set them up and adjust on, they’re really no good to me. That’s the issue here. I have carburetors myself but no vehicles to put them on. A video(s) about carburetors is nothing without setting them up and putting them on a running engine.
September 26, 2013 at 10:49 am #551459Hey Erick,
Since you have a carb can you start by at least making a video on how they work? I mean like explain what each part is and what it dose? That would give me a start π
Kind of like the video you did on engines and motors. Then when you get a car with a carb you can to the tuning part for it π Would really appreciate it! “Stay dirty”September 26, 2013 at 3:25 pm #551479[quote=”greens4me” post=73816]Hey Erick,

The carburetors I have are old Honda carburetors which are very confusing to look at. When I do a carburetor video I will do it on a running engine. Setting it up is the most important part.
October 4, 2013 at 3:43 am #552913What about Holley carbs?

Hey Eric! How are you? π
Quadrajet you say?
Isn’t that the carburetor that was mounted on some of these squarish 1970-early1980s truly American cars?
I mean, these that even here in Europe we’ve been used to see in all telefilms of the ’70s and ’80s.I’m not very well versed in the specific brands and models , but a quick wikipedia search tells me that carb was used for over 30 years on lots and lots of GM vehicles.
I mean , those mythical V8! :woohoo:
I’d really like (and I mean REALLY) to see Eric doing stuff on one of those cars , and of course its carb would not be an exception!
I was thinking…since I really cannot get one here, without spending monstrous amounts of euros, and later being leeched by taxes and fuel…well, there in US these cars are much much more common, and quick looking through craigslist in Eric’s area returned me some results at a price I consider to be very cheap (around 1000 bucks).
I know I know, these will probably be akin to Eric’s famous “Yuck Bucket”, but then they would be even more fun, don’t you think? (well a little less rusty I’d hope π )
I must be mad or something π but the idea of “remotely purchasing” :silly: such a car and giving it to Eric to play with is very very exciting :woohoo:
So what you think Eric?
I’ll be eagerly awaiting your comments (or insults π or whatever feedback) buddy!

I was really hoping my next production vehicle would be a diesel but I’m finding that those are hard to come by here in the states. At least at a reasonable price. That said, during my search I always look at the old beat up classics thinking, “I could make that work”.
I first need to wrap things up with the Subaru and then sell it before I have the money to put up for a new vehicle. At that time, I’ll see what I end up with and take it from there.

About the diesel, having a diesel myself, I’d really like seeing you “meeting” that kind of engine; I mean, I like diesels, they’re kinda sincere and very torquy engines, the boost kicks in very early (1500rpm in my 1.9 liters punto) and pulls up to 4000 and beyond (albeit smoking π )
However, I see you are faced with problems in availability, and did the same thought about the good-old-oldies π
Let me explain more clearly, I’d really like to lend an hand to you on that one.
If you sell the Subaru to get more cash, it’s okay anyway.I only ask in return some videos and , if I ever come to US ( I really really hope so! ), a drivearound on “the beast” :cheer:
By the way, I LOVE the sound of your latest Galaxie’s engine in the video you made about it.
Its roar was featured in your first videos openings, right?I’ll stand by and wait for your moves, I’m not in a hurry, and don’t want to put you into that!
On the Suby account, I have to say I have always liked that car, my friend , the one with the Kia Carnival, once took me on a ride on his Subaru Legacy (it was from the series before yours) , and boy it did run fast!
I would have never thought that a station wagon could do such things! :woohoo:By the way, I have seen a very similar red Suby in Switzerland some weeks ago, for a second I thought, “hey that’s Eric’s Suby!” π
What the hell does Eric do in Switzerland? π
But then I noticed it had different wheels… πOk, I’m hopeless, I have managed to overtype again!
I ask for forgiveness π
