hesitation when hot

09 Mitsubishi Eclipse 3.8 v6. I been getting a weird hesitation, sputtering, etc when attempting to accelerate from a stop or low speeds and low rpm’s. I noticed sometimes the engine is knocking too. It only happens when the engine is hot like during a lot of stop and go driving. The warmer the air temperature, the more likely it is to happen. I guessing nothing mechanical being it runs fine most of the time. Im guessing something to do with air/fuel ratio and/ or timing. Bad sensor maybe? I do not have any codes.

My first thought would be a dirty MAF sensor causing a lean mixture when warm and consequently spark knock. Sometimes the MAF can be dirty or faulty and not set a code. Try cleaning the MAF (only use a designated cleaner for MAF). You might want to clean the throttle body as well, but do not remove the TB for cleaning, just a good spray and wipe of the throttle plate and air horn.

I was thinking lean condition also because of the knocking. Im just not sure about the temprature being the deciding factor. It makes sense and easy to do. Ill give it a shot. Thanks.

Yesterday was 80 degrees with high humidity and the car ran rough. Today is 70 degrees with low humidity and the car is running fine.
