I would start with a power balance test and vacuum leaks. just so were on the same page. its engine
hesitation not transmissionC8-)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAOmUjAj … plpp_video

Yes but the trans changed it. I did a power balance test and all came back normal. Just to be sure I put new motorcraft plugs in it and swaped the known good coils from my wrecked van to this one and still no change. I was with you originally thinking a coil pack was going down but aliminated that and I forget what it was but vacum was within specs.

I did a power balance with my scan tool, Ford gives you that option if your scanner is equiped, which my Autel Maxi Das is. Unplugging coil packs in the case would be counter productive. It does not have a hard miss, unplugging a coil would give it a hard miss. With the scan tool I can moniter it while I drive it under the condition of he problem. Also I put new plugs in it and took the known good coils from my wrecked van and swapped them, no difference. Also, as the van warms up it goes away, coils or plugs would do the oppisite. I was thinking pump pressure in the trans but that shows good to and the old van had no probs so with that trans it eliminates that.
May 10, 2012 at 11:00 am #445909have you checked fuel pressure?

Fuel pressure is good
May 10, 2012 at 11:00 am #445911recheck the gaps on your plugs. also check the injectors. use a screw driver to listen for the clicks.
what was the fuel pressure reading? have you change the fuel filter? also did you search for vacuum
leaks? look at the EGR itself + the vacuum linesC8-)Btw is this a hesitation all cylinders down on power
or a mis- jerking/stumble need to know which one. in your description you say both. needs to be one or the
other. trying to diagnose the correct problem.May 10, 2012 at 11:00 am #445912I would stress test your ignition system with a adjustable ignition tester as well as checking fuel pressure as stated above.
Hesitation issues are usually ignition related.
Do you have any options on your scan tool to look at misfire history per cylinder?

I borrowed a friend of mines IDS and programmed the TCM and the problem went away. It was a trans programming issue.
May 11, 2012 at 11:00 am #445914thanks for the fix and the updateC8-)
May 11, 2012 at 11:00 am #445915Interesting I had not thought of that. I appreciate you taking the time to post the fix, it will go on to help others with similar problems. Thanks also for using the ETCG forum.
May 12, 2012 at 11:00 am #445916Just to clarify, the IDS is Fords factory scan tool.
May 12, 2012 at 11:00 am #445917How did you clarify it was a TCM issue?
I am just interested in what the scan tool data showed while you was reviewing it C8-)
May 12, 2012 at 11:00 am #445918I found an update for the TCM programming in the up to date software on the IDS which superceded the program that was in the TCM. In driving I knew it was transmission. You learn what these things feel like after 12 yrs exp. in the buisness.

That’s good to know seeing as you took it to a ‘trans guy’ when you was stumped and he couldn’t figure it out, same too with Ford.
Ill have to review the programming and see what changed exactly.
Thanks for posting the fix though. Let us know how its performing after a few months S:)
