      My lada samara 1.3 1989 has got 25k miles on it, it has developed a hesitayion, when i go 45mph it loses power and stalls and if i floor it it hesitates even more, i think its a carburetor problem what do you think ?

        if I had to guess there is a jet that might be clogged but then again, there are a lot of things that can be causing this. check the carburetor for sure to see nothing is obstructed

          I thought the same also, when it stalls it sometimes is very hard to restart and takes alot of cranking, sometimes it starts immediately

            Im going to rebuild the carb, it needs it anyways because its still original apart from cleaning

              banana: I rebuilt the carburetor today, it still lacks power and stalls, and its very hard to restart, lots of cranking, i replaced the fuel pump as i thought it was it and when i tested it after 10 seconds cranking, only about 50ml of petrol came out from the bottle is this normal ?

                Check fuel filter and fuel pressure. With a carb engine, you can test fuel pressure with an oil pressure gauge if you don’t have a fuel pressure gauge.

                  If you have access to the fuel tank internals, check the screen at the fuel pickup, if the car has one. There could be 30 years of crud blocking it.

                  If the screen seems OK, you can disconnect the entire length of fuel line at both ends, at the tank and the fuel pump. Shoot some compressed air through the line. I’ve seen cases where rubber sections of the fuel line disintegrate internally, leaving globs of gooey muck that restrict fuel flow.

                  Stepping away from the fuel system, it’s possible that the ignition coil is failing under demand. (I’m assuming you have an old-school “bottle style” coil.) A flakey coil can cause all kinds of problems under different conditions.

                    Fuel sender is new in fuel tank, fuel filter is new, replaced coil with a known good one, still car stalls, replaced fuel pump its stalling still, it stalls especially when flooring it although not always, when it stalls usually it is very hard to restart it

                      Found the problem thanks to you guys :)) clogged fuel sender pickup, even though its new it picked up dirt from bottom of tank, any ideas how to clean fuel tank ? Im planning to remove it and clean it ?

                            If you can find a new unused replacement fuel tank for your car, that would be the quickest and most effective way to go.

                            If you are forced into trying to rehabilitate your current gas tank, a good method would be to remove it. Pour a few pints of kerosene into it and slosh it around, then pour it all out. You might have to repeat this a couple of times to get all the loose sediment to drain out. There are products that are meant to coat the inside of rusty old motorcycle tanks. You pour the stuff into the tank, then move/tip the tank as needed to get the stuff to coat all the internal surfaces. Let it dry and you’re done. I haven’t used these products, and I’ve heard a few stories about the coating flaking off over time and causing blockages. Whether that’s a fault of not having been applied properly or a fault of the product itself, I don’t know.
