I’m in Florida and have been without AC for about a year now. 🙁
There are 2 wires going to the compressor. The plug has a ground and battery voltage. When I turn the A/C button ON it sends battery voltage to the compressor clutch (with permission from the pressure switch and through a relay), when the A/C button is OFF the voltage is off. Seems simple enough.

Problem is the compressor clutch isn’t turning on when it’s clearly getting voltage. Tried hitting the clutch with a prybar to see if that would help it engage, no dice. There was quite a lot of rust that puffed out when I hit it, didn’t think that was a good sign. It did turn on first thing one morning on a cold start. Tried replicating that multiple days on cold start with no luck. Only ever saw it engage once briefly and it kicked off after about a minute. I’m sure the pressure switch isn’t causing it to not work otherwise power wouldn’t even be sent to the clutch. I’m thinking the stator is dead. Looking for a 2nd opinion. I’ve never diagnosed a compressor clutch before just want to make sure it sounds like I’m doing the right thing with a new compressor clutch. I’d rather just replace the clutch so I don’t have to worry about evacuation.

If power is going to it sounds like a bad clutch. remove the plug and ohm the coil out
        to see if its open.
