Ok so i recently did an engine swap on my 97 honda accord ex, i had been driving the car for about 2 weeks and maybe 1000 miles…

one night im driving down the highway and it starts acting like its running out of gas i fill it up and it continues to act like crap…

ive checked all the connection, cleaned egr valve and ports, changed vtec control solenoid, fuel pressure regulator, and have no vaccuum leaks…

The car ONLY does it once it gets up to temp, it does NOT do it while its cold.. Heres a video to see whats going on, please watch part 2 and 3 to hear it acting up

have you checked the fuel pressure system?

and i believe that it kicks out of it when you throttle it is due to the VTEC engaging.

also, i couldn’t really tell on the video, but i don’t think it would hurt to check the alternator either. make sure its working properly.

its early, let me think on it a bit i might come up with something later.
in the mean time. keep us updated.

I suppose start with the basics like checking spark and fuel during the time it’s acting up. Honda’s don’t like aftermarket parts so you might want to check those first if you have any especially the distributor, electrical parts often fail when hot. You might also go back and check your work, you might have missed something or hooked something up wrong. Keep us posted.

ok So ive been troubleshooting my car, and investigating the problem more… I have a new fuel filter, new plugs “again” put on the “old” plug wires, instead of the new bosche wires id bought, and rechecked all of my connections… Stilll running like crap and not throwing a single DTC…. ALTHOUGH!!!!!!

I think I`ve narrowed it down!!!! The car messes up BETWEEN the point where it is cool, and its just about up to temp! so if i start the engine up from being off overnight, it runs perfect for about 10 mins… Then it will run like crap UNTIL it gets up to full operating temp.. Do take in mind I am not running it without a Thermo, so thats why it takes so long to heat up…

I am going to reinstall the thermo, and see if that helps, But i strongly agree with one man that left a comment on here, who told me that i needed to replace the thermo because it was probably causing this problem. “Id thank him, but someone seems to have edited this post” Ill keep yous guys posted, and Much thanks to all for your input!!! ETCG rules!

Throwing parts at something is not investigating. You can’t run a fuel injected engine without a thermostat. So many engine controls are based on engine temperature that running it without a thermostat can really mess things up. I’m not surprised you have temperature related issues while running without a thermostat. Put a thermostat in it, preferably an OE or good quality one and then recheck for your symptoms. Don’t forget to bleed the system!
