Help on 99 Monte Carlo ground near alternator

      I have a 99 Monte Carlo with a 3.1 L and had the classic lower intake leak. I changed that out and know where most all the bolts, vacuum lines and wire connectors go too.

      My question is I have a double tabbed ground coming out of the wiring harness that extends from the fuel rail, to the ignition coil to the throttle body area. I believe it was on he stud on the back of the alternator however this alternator has 2 brackets that extend to the plenum studs to stabilize the alternator. Does anyone know if this double ringed ground on this long wire harness hooks to the back of alternator stud or to the aluminum plenum side. The only thing in the area is the ignition coil but I dont think it goes there because of the body of it is plastic and it has its own two wire connectors.

      My thought is the alternator because it has to ground however the metal bracket hooks from alternator to the plenum and it may not matter. Any help or pictures of this late 90 3.1L would be appreciated.

        This should a close representation to yours but no mention of any ground connection on the alternator:

        The ground may be attached to the block or intake plenum.

          My alternator harness is different. My battery positive is the old loop style around the stud. Then I have a lower smaller stud that is not apart of the main mounting bolts however it does have a small bracket arm that comes off the alternator and it goes to the top of the plenum as 3rd mounting arm. I think my ground goes on the alternator side of that. ???.

            A picture would be useful here.
            But if I had to guess, that ground wire(s) is not directly mounted to the alternator.
            If it were me, I’d be looking for a witness mark that the lug would have left.

              I will do that. This does not have a long cable and cannot travel very far from plenum or alternator because of short leash. With the metal bracket connecting the two. Would it really matter which side I ground. I know that this did not come off the block, head or firewall.

                As long as it is clean, tight and makes a good connection to ground.
                I don’t really see much difference.

                  Agreed, ground it to where it reaches. A stud is normally used for such a thing.

                    For those interested. It could only reasonably reach the 1st stud bolt on top of the cylinder 1 and when looking at witness mark, there was a circle on the bottom for the stud and an oval on top from the bracket coming from the alternator. Thanks for ideas. I thought about it yesterday and figured I would post, however it was pretty plane to see when I was back at car.
