Hi fellows out there, since I own an eclipse 99 gs I replace de Head Gasket and Head Bolts torqued up everything to specs and the head gasket still leaks some,,,,,,,,,,,,,have somebody heard something that can help me here cause I know it’s a common issue on eclipses from 97 to 99,,,,,what Iam trying now is thick oil with lucas but honestly I feel dissapointed if somebody else know something that helps me stoping some the leak I’ll appreciated.

I didn’t take the head to the machine shop, I read the head gasket and bolts were the issue on the eclipses, actually the current head gasket look different and I even replaced the head bolts…so theres a small window of failure ( not taking the head to be check ) I haven’t read nothing like the heads on these eclipses got warped but I’ll keep looking up for more info
like I said what Iam doing now is using thick oil plus lucas and already tried a treatment to stop oil leaks,,somebody recommended me WHITE SHEPPARD but it didn’t work so if somebody know something else let me know
If you just did the head gasket and its leaking oil.
either a cheap gasket was used.head bolts not torqued
in sequence correctly or the head is warped.Pull the head
back off and check the head with a straight edge.Use a quality
gasket.I don’t recommend sealers,leak stops or any other voo doo
to solve this issue other than the correct gasket and flat straight
surfaces.also proper torque and sequence.if u didnt check the heads then its most likely ur heads are warped, every time u replace a head gasket u have to have the heads checked.
Always check your heads when you blow a head gasket.
I personally don’t believe in those miracle cure chemicals. Take the heads back off and find out what the problem is and fix it right. Not checking the heads came back to bite you.
It may be the head gasket is backwards it is common on eclipse and dodge neons the head gaskets go on the dowl pins both ways.
Are you leaking any anti freeze if not then it will not be what I said because when put on wrong the gasket will cover two of the water jackets and water will leak also that being said go with college man quality gasket straight edge. If you remove the head no matter what you find don’t try to reuse head or bolts those bolts are suppose to be stretched

tighting sequence is key. also if you didnt get every little speck of old gasket off its a fail. should be perfectly clean no matter how long it takes.
I torque everything to specs, is an oil leak on the rear of the head gasket why is it so common on eclipses 97 to 99…so it means that all these heads got warped????? Iam just try to find an explanation….tnx fellows
You won’t be able to get an explanation until you find out exactly what the problem is. That is why it’s important to at least have the heads checked when you do a head gasket. At least use a straight edge and feeler gauge to do a home test if you don’t take it to the machine shop. I always take mine to machine shop. If you can find a good local smaller one the prices are usually pretty good. Cheap insurance to prevent a problem like you have now.
OK I’ll first say that even if the head was warped if you used the correct torquing procedure you should be fine. I’ve actually read articles on this years ago and since then I’ve been following this practice with great success. In short, I don’t think your head is warped causing the leak. I am with the group that you should always check for a warped head when doing a head gasket however. At least it’s good to know before you put things back together.
The first thing that came to mind was, are you sure it’s leaking from the head? It could be leaking form somewhere else. I’d first verify the source of the leak as it could just as easily be a valve cover gasket or some other seal besides the head gasket.
I strongly recommend you use the correct oil in the engine. You can actually starve the bearings and top end by using oil that is too thick. Why risk engine damage for an oil leak? I also don’t recommend stop leak. Fix the leak, that’s the best way to deal with an oil leak.
