Caught myself stuck on Eric’s YouTube Channel(s) the last few days, so I figured I’d sign up here.
My main squeeze is a 1990 Nissan 300ZX (Automatic and NA, whomp whomp) that I have been working on since I retired her from daily driver status a few years ago. I’ve kept her in running shape, although the interior is gutted and the exterior needs A LOT of attention. I bought her in great condition, but she was sort of my guinea pig when it came to doing more than just spark plugs and oil changes. I’ve become pretty well rehearsed with working on the externals of a VG30DE.
The daily driver is a 2009 Toyota Matrix. Pretty bland car. Cool metallic gray color. 4 cylinders, 30+ MPG’s on the highway. Uber reliable. Just changed out the oil to a Valvoline full synthetic MaxLife 5w30 in preparation for the Florida summer. Otherwise I use 0w20 to get those MPG’s! Haha.
Latest addition is a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee (ZJ) 5.9 Limited. I always wanted one! Found one in Texas that was maintained really well. So well in fact, that even though the ZJ has 273,000 miles on it, the Jeep still runs like a champ. I plan on lifting it soon, and keeping up with all the routine maintenance, even though after 200K miles, I’m not sure what is “routine” versus what is “keep her on the road!” Ha!
Last but not least is the 2000 Chrysler LHS, formerly my uncle’s, dad’s and now on to the girlfriend to drive so she isn’t car-less. I am surprised at how reliable those models are. Kind of a weird front facing V6 front wheel drive setup though. The battery is in an obnoxious spot. In 2014 I redid the front end with new inner & outer tie rods, struts, CV axles, wheel bearings, stabilizer links and lower control arms. Just greased everything up. I aways have some little side project to do with that car, but overall it is a pretty classy “reliable POS.”
I’m no mechanic or technician, just an insatiable apettite for learning and getting my hands dirty. Need to learn to weld!!
