I have a question to any body that may help. My heater core is leaking, soaking the passenger side floor board and even to the outside. I’ve had and delt with this problem a few years ago in my 1990 chevy 4×4 s-10 blazer, it was difficult but didn’t involve removing the whole dash or dropping the steering wheel and all that. I had to go in through the glove box and remove my stereo, but that was it. Now for the dodge it seems like that’s the way to do it. My main question is could it be a matter of just flushing it? I’ve got good ac and good heat, so I’m not sure if it’s all that clogged and I can’t physically feel or see where it’s leaking from. But it’s mos def leaking somewhere. So before I condemn the core, could it be something eles or should I just bite the bullet and rip it out?

If you’re lucky it’s a problem with the hose clamps to the heater core, maybe those are more accessible. But usually it’s a bad heater core, the new ones are often made with plastic end caps and there are soo many places for those to leak it’s not funny.

Hey thanks. I’ve looked at the connections, they seem ok and tight. I’m not seeing any leakage there but ya know I’m looking for the simple solution befor I just throw a new part and 4 hours into it. In the back of my mind I knew what was up, but I also have a prob w/ the blend door( seems to be a common prob) the vacume controller arm only seems to work half the time, but is there an ac line up there that could be clogged up or only the core? It’s all that I can see so far w/out tearing everything apart?

If your seeing coolant inside the truck I hate to say
it but the heater core is the only thing that lives there.
For right now what you could do is get some heater hose the
same size and loop it to bypass the heater core. This way you
don’t lose coolant and see if the wetness goes away. 🙂

How safe would that be and how long would I have to make the decision? Also if I by-pass it and there is still aleak, what am I looking at?

Are you adding coolant to the radiator? If you are then chances are the heater core is leaking…not plugged.

Its safe. You won’t have any heat and winter is coming. I believe
your leak will go away. 🙂
