Since the day before yesterday, I’ve been hearing a knock sound coming from the front driver’s side. It only happens when I’m on the local road. It’s not a repetitive knock. Just like one knock per bump I think. Do you have any idea as to what is causing this knock sound?

By the way, I inspected the strut. The boot that is under the spring is torn. The spring itself is fine. There is no sort of oil or residue leaking from the strut. I tried shaking the car to recreate the knocking sound. No luck. The steering wheel does not shake when the noise occurs. I did hear the knock sound when doing something like simply reversing out of my parents driveway.

It could be an upper front control arm. I had an Audi A4 which has a similar suspension and it needed new control arms at 80,000 miles. It made a similar noise. The arms are not serviceable so they must be replaced. Use only original VW parts as there are some terrible quality after market parts out in the market. Hope this helps, good luck and stay dirty.

Thanks. I already replaced the control arms. Also, I replaced the sway bar links, tie rod ends, and axles/cv joints.

Thanks. I saw the video before I signed up on the website. It was very informative. I’m definitely going to check my engine mounts tomorrow. After watching that video, it wouldn’t surprise me if that was the problem.
