      I’m having trouble with either the clutch or gearbox(in my opinion,I don’t really have a clue what’s wrong) I can start the car fine but with the clutch pedal pushed down, I can’t put the stick into gear. Even with a little force not happens.. But if I turn the car off I can move the gears just fine. Would really appreciate you guys help with this ..

        How does the clutch pedal feel? I would start with checking the fluid in the clutch master cylinder

        The master cylinder reservoir for the clutch is located here

        The one in the pic is very low, the fluid should be about halfway up the reservoir .

          If it was too low, air might have been sucked into the system.

          Here is a great video by Eric showing him replacing the hydraulic parts and the end shows how to bleed the system

          I recommend watching the whole video even if you don’t change out the parts, it will help explain how it all works together.

            What it boils down to is the clutch is not disengaging. It could be the hydraulics or it could be the clutch itself.

              As others have said, your clutch is not releasing. Best place to start looking is at the clutch master cylinder.

              I would almost bet you will find it empty. Refill it, and you should start to get some clutch action, then you can search for the leak that caused it to empty out in the first place.

              The clutch in my 94 accord failed pretty abruptly this summer with absolutely no prior problems. Turned out I had a leak in the rubber line going to the slave cylinder, AND in the clutch master cylinder as well. When I did the job, I went ahead and changed the slave cylinder too, got it all done with at one time.

                Hi, the clutch pedal kind of feels soft, like there isn’t any resistance. I don’t know if that helps.. I have checked the fluid an it was almost empty. I filled it up an went well for a day( could still drive an change gears) an the next day I couldn’t change gears at all..

                  Check the fluid again, if it is low again you will have to find out where your leak is.

                  If you watch Eric’s video it should show you which components to inspect to find the leaks.

                  To help better here is another of Erics clutch hydraulics videos on a Civic

                  That feeling of being soft comes from air in the clutch hydraulics, same issue as when air gets in the brake hydraulics also.

                  If the fluid is not low than you are going to need to bleed the air out of your clutch hydraulics, both videos will show you how to bleed the air out.

                      Hi again, I was following the instructions that were on both videos(well checking the parts without removing the parts) an for some reason I noticed that the clutch was half way down from its normal position.(I don’t know how I overlooked that!!) anyway I pulled it back to the correct position, started the car and found that I could change gears once again.. So I thought of asking if the master cylinder/slave still needed to be changed or would it be ok to drive now.. I haven’t driven the car yet an wondered if the problem had been solved.. Please help..

                        Thank you for the big help guys! I finally got the part an fixed it yesterday, it’s running awesome now!! The clutch is softer than I remember but I hope that’s not a big deal.. Once again thank you all for your help! Cheers
