Harmonic balancer installation

Do you need to buy the specialty tool? Ive heard that people just use a piece of wood and a deadblow to tap it on.

I will happily admit to having installed them that way, far enough to get the bolt threaded a few turns, then used the bolt to pull it the rest of the way in.

I think the special tool amounts to being a long threaded rod with a heavy duty washer and nut, so I’m sure if you don’t want to spend big dollars on the special tool, but don’t want to bang on your balancer with a hammer either, you could find threaded rod, a nice heavy washer and nut, and get it for a good bit less than the special tool.
