I have a 1994 ford f-150 with the 4.9L straight six. Its hard to start when it’s either warm out side or the engine is warm but, only after I have let it sit for like 20 minutes after running. If I were to turn it off and start it up immediately afterwards it starts OK, not great but with out pressing the accelerator.if it’s cold outside it starts fine. If It is like above 70 outside i have to press the accelerator to get it to start, otherwise it will sound like it’s JUST about to start but never will, like only 1 or 2 cylinders are firing during start up. When I press the accelerator it will run a bit faster but still barely stay running and only fire on the 1 or 2 cylinders until I reach idle speed, once it reaches idle speed it runs just fine with no performance problems of any kind. I’m not quite sure what to think about it, I think it’s efi related maybe i should change the fuel filter because it was about the same time that i ran about 15 gallons of 20:1 gas to diesel that i got for free from the shop i work at, the rest of the shop also ran it without issues, so I’m not sure if it was that was the problem

        Maybe a starter issue?

I have seen same symptoms (difficult 1st start followed by easier ones) on a car which had a starter with worn out brushes.

Yeah, change the filter. The strange gas might have stirred something up in the tank. Also, I’d suggest checking out the coolant temperature sensor.

That’s possible because the starter is original to the truck so its now about 21 years old, however it seems to crank pretty strong

I’ll go ahead and change the filter because that is a fairly cheap job however the fuel line clips on these ford are a PAIN to work with.
