I have a 1990 Chevy Lumina with the 3.1 in it and it seems to be shifting hard into 4th gear or overdrive. It shifts through 1-3 just fine. I’ve changed the transmission fluid and filter and that didn’t seem to help. If any of you guys know what could be the problem just let me know! Thank you.

It sounds like the od/torque convertor lock up
solenoid is failing (TCC) or has a signal problem.

Yeah I’ve been doing a little research and thats what I’ve been reading. Is the TCC difficult to replace?

I believe the trans pan must be removed and the valve body.
then the tcc can be replaced. what I would do is find the connector
and unplug it to see if the symptoms stop. if they do replace the tcc solenoid.

Yes valve body must be taken out. Make sure you label everything. Hardest part is trying not to drop the valve body and letting the check balls fall out

I have the older transmission not the 4T60-E

Well I unplugged the connector that goes into the transmission and it shifts a lot better. It doesn’t shift hard into overdrive anymore when it’s unplugged. But when i plug it back in it shifts hard.

I believe you have confirmed the problem. 😉
