I’m looking at some used cars to buy and a couple have had hail damage. Where I live rust is a HUGE problem (salt on roads, long winter).

Does previous hail damage make a car more likely to rust in the future? There’s no visible rust now, I’m just wondering if it’s more likely because of the previous body work.

If the paint repair was done the right way there is no need to worry about rust (or at least it shouldn’t rust more that usual).

You should consider a car that has a galvanized body. Some that I can think of at the moment : Audi, Volvo or SAAB. They just don’t rust that much (Volvos don’r rust at all)

Normal dings and dents should not cause rust in the future. Only when the outer surface of your paint / clearcoat is compromised (chipped off) and bare metal is exposed would I be concerned about rusting. Good luck! Aaron
