have a 2003 kia spectra 1.8 4 cylinder. got my front rotors and pads replaced as well as a flex pipe. ever since ( about 2 weeks) when i turn the wheel all the way to either side there is a grinding noise coming from what feels like both tires. any idea on what this could be?

Its probably the pad material. what brand of pads are they?

Most times that’s the splash shield coming into contact with the rotor. You might want to bend it slightly so that it’s a little farther away from the rotor. Another possible cause might be that the shims on the caliper might be doing the same thing so if moving the splash shield away doesn’t help you might want to look there.

When you say you “got them replaced” I’m assuming that you took it to a shop. If that’s the case, do not do anything to it. Take it back to the shop and tell them. If the mechanic messed something up and you touch it then they are no longer liable.

so where exactly is the splash shield on the caliper? and if that is the problem would i feel it on the floor of the car? also, most recently i hear the same grinding noise when i get down to about 5mph. only its pulsating like something is bent and it hitting. it shouldnt be the rotor because i just got them replaced. some other info is when im driving i hear a road noise coming from the passenger side tire but again it not constant. it pulsates and when i drive faster it gets faster. im thinking it might be a bent rim but im not sure.

The grinding is happening when you slow down between say
30-5 mph. is the noise heard while driving on the highway
                  and no brakes applied?

no the noise isnt heard on the highway or driving at all. only when coming to a stop. and by that i literally mean 10mph and under. nothing above that

its the pad friction material. Put some wagner ceramic thermo quiets
                      on there from advance auto.

I agree, it sounds like cheap friction material. BTW the splash shield is the metal plate behind the rotor that helps keep water and contaminants from getting into the brake system.
