Have a rounded bolt/oil drain plug on my Honda motorcycle. Have ordered one of these sockets to try and remove it. Will have it maybe 10 days. If it fits in this tight area, fine. But.. if it does not fit I can save alot of time by taking the bike to a machine shop and getting this over with. I need to find out what the outside diameter of this socket is. Then I will know if I can wait on it to arrive and get the job done. If it is too large … I will put the socket in my toolbox and already have this job finished. Anybody out there got a G02 socket?

I have no experience with the G02. Another alternative is a reverse-fluted bolt extractor. They work well for removing stubborn hex fasteners and are not much larger than a socket. The Irwin sets are available at most hardware and big box stores. They are sometimes sold as a base set (with sizes A, C, E, G…) and an expansion set (with sizes B, D, F…), so double check the sizes on the package.

The outside diameter of the GO2 socket is 1 7/16″. The bolt might be the limiting factor on whether or not you can use it and that will be largely determined by the size of the bolt head that you are trying to remove.

Thanks for the info… due to the bosses around the drain plug Honda built into the engine case, it appears the G02 will not fit into that area. Best estimate is maybe a 1″ outside diameter max for the removal tool. A 7/8 socket inserted over the 12MM drain plug bolt leaves maybe 1/4 inch clearance around it… doesn’t look good. Still a handy tool to have for other projects…. will look for the Irwin products this morning.

Turbo sockets are your best bet. Get the SK, Williams, Snap-On, Turbosocket, Craftsman Bolt-Out set might work. I know for a fact the others do because they are all rebranded turbosocket brand. I use them anytime i have something stripped never been an issue. I suggest tapping it on or using a prybar to push it on if possible. If not they still work just try to keep force on the back of the ratchet or socket so it bites better. Irwin set does not work well on true hardened bolts just an fyi.

Went to Home Depot, and they had no tools for bolt/screw extraction. Nada. I was amazed. They did have one possibility, a socket called the Gatorbite. Put that on the impact wrench and after a second or 2 it came right out. Problem solved and a new drain plug installed.
