On the 32C3, the 32nd Chaos Communication Congress in Hamburg, Germany, a hacker congress where lots of smart people talk about smart stuff, there has been a talk about how the VW ‘Dieselgate’ manipulations work: In the first half, how the ongoings in a large car manufacturing corporation like VW work, so that something like a defeat device can be implemented at all (with lots of implications on who might be responsible).
And in the second half, a hacker did decompile an ECU and tried to find the defeat device, so he actually figured out the mechanism by what this works and proved his findings on a dyno (with a German market car though, but that isn’t important in this case).
