We got a new shop foreman 2 months ago.

So far 5 techs have quit, possibly a 6th one. One was fired and told “you were fired to be made an example”. Two techs have filed complaints with HR.

Two techs have gone to HR and filed complaints.

Our QC scores have dropped, efficiency scores have dropped, time to complete scores have dropped, and fixed first time scores have all dropped since our new foreman has taken over.

We have about 20 techs in our shop, 14 are actively seeking other jobs.

Techs are being handed RO’s for oil changes while hourly lube techs are given alignments, brake repairs, flushes. Tech went from 40-60 flag hour weeks to barely cracking 20 flag hours a week.

Customers are filing complaints on quality of work, things not being done properly. A

And yet this foreman still has his job.

The service manager is actively trying to write up and fire the shop foreman but the foreman manages to talk his way out of write ups somehow.

Personally I don’t know how much more of this moron I can take.

I put in for a different dealer. I interviewed today with another dealer and he told me some things that blew my mind, without me even telling him which dealer in the franchise I work for. He knew exactly what was wrong and why. In fact he has hired a few people from my current dealership and they are very happy at this new one.
Funny how word gets out like wildfire in these situations…. An HR nightmare for the current place you are… They better do something quick to stop the bleeding…

        Good luck..

7 techs quit in 2 months, and the management is demanding a way to make more money.

I’m sure in a few months after you leave, they’ll have 8 techs who barely speak english as replacements.

Good for you for having he balls to keep bouncing to find the right place. I’ve known a couple guys who flaked out of the business because they were afraid to take the risks necessary to find a place that works. Hang in there, brother.

Thanks brother. I’ve put some feelers out for some places I’ve heard are pretty good. I Have the luxury of having a pretty good market up here.

I need to be careful though, I don’t want to bounce to many places and bounce my ass out of options.

I’ll seriously work at Wal-Mart before Firestone or Grismer.

                I’m kidding no I won’t.

I officially accepted an offer from a different shop. Ironically the shop manager fired my old foreman about 15 years ago. We both shared stories and laughed about how bad he is as a foreman. He laid out exactly what I will be doing, for how long, then start shadowing a tech to see how much knowledge I have.

Then after a while (6-8 months) I will be cut loose and turned flat rate. I’m excited for the opportunity to do a long block on a V-8, but also shitting my pants at the same time.

If you guys want I will keep you updated or just shoot private messages to the guys that are interested in how things go.

Good for you sir. Keep me in the loop. I’d be interested in hearing how things pan out.

My last dealer which was a Mazda/Kia the manager promised the world yada yada yada, we have the #1 Mazda tech in the world type thing. Which is true mark won the world technician comp for Mazda. But anyway I got in there things were great for a few months then I was able to pick out things that were horrible with management. He was money hungry, didn’t care about his employees. Could care less about shop equipment. I got out of there about 8 months ago and jumped ship to the gm dealer everyone had talked trash about when I was still there.

That decision has been one of the best career decisions I have ever made. Don’t be afraid of big things like that. I hate bouncing around but I’m now in a place with a great atmosphere as a whole and totally happy to walk into work every day.

The shop I’m going to has a bad rep from people that have been fired from there. So I take it with a grain of salt. One guy I work with worked for the service manager and told me he’s a good dude. I’ll keep everyone updated.

I dropped my two week notice today, a lot of people were bummed. But I refuse to fall on my sword for someone that’s trying to shove it in already.
