I’m thinking about rebuilding the transmission in my 99 Blazer and I’d like to know exactly what specialty tools I need for the internals. Which tools do I absolutely need and which tools can I do without? I’m optimistic that I don’t need to focus on the valve body for any repairs. Once I got the Blazer running, I found it was slow to engage any forward gears except manual low gear. I kept driving it anyway and it’s been starting to slip more and more for it. I did line pressure testing on my own and the few test pressures I could find were all in spec. I turned the Blazer over to a friend at the tech school who did some more in depth testing who said he liked all the testing he’d done and said he’s pretty sure the majority of my problems start with bad seals in the forward drum and the clutches are probably worn out for it.
I’m also interested in a tool wish list for 4R70/75 transmissions too. I stock piled some junk cores while I was still working in a taxi fleet for the sake of rebuilding them. It wasn’t that I needed to, I just wanted to. When I got out of school, I was really hoping I’d be able to get in the door of a transmission shop once I got done with school, but that’s been three years ago and I haven’t seen the inside of a transmission since. To me, they’re the coolest set of legos I’ve ever seen and I’d like to start working on them again before I forget anything and everything about them.
So what do I need for tools?
Thanks in advance.
