      Eric,

I’ve been reading the forum for issues people have been experiencing, and I find the same problem as everywhere on the web. Someone posts a question on a particular car issue, people suggest fixes, but the issue never gets a final writeup of what was repaired, how it was identified and if the issue was finally fixed.

I would love if you could find a way to have people post a final writeup and resolution to their issues. Perhaps have them receive points for doing so. That way when I read that a certain car has a crank/no start, it came out to be a fuel issue because …..

      Thank you!
      Julian

That is the nature of open forums, often there is no posted resolution. I have been adapting, got used to iatn where the solutions are very often posted. But, I am with you, I would love to see more “this is what fixed it” posts, I think it would help more members.

I’m afraid there really is no way of making people come back and post to the site. I try to encourage them when I respond to their posts but that’s about all I can do. It may be frustrating but that’s the way it is sometimes.

What I would love is if more people would actually use the search function, you might be surprised at how many questions could be answered that way due to post that have already been resolved. I don’t see that happening either but I can always hope.

          Thank you for your input.

            Eric,

I’m a software developer by day so I can’t help myself but to think about this:) Whoever is working on maintaining/building your forum, if they have time you could suggest the following to add:

Add a button, like the “Thank you” button you currently have call it “Issue Resolved”. When the user that started the tread clicks that button, they can enter a resolution text and the issue will be marked as resolved. On the flip side, have the code check that nothing has been posted to that tread for say a week. If so, send the thread originator an email requesting that they close the thread. Do it maybe twice over 2 weeks– 2 emails. If they don’t close, oh well, but I’d bet most people will be happy to writeup a resolution– they just forget to do it.

            Raistian77,

            What’s iatn?

            Thanks guys!

P.S., been learning a lot from your videos and this site!!! Keep it up!

iatn is a forum for automotive repair techs. Stands for international automotive technician’s network. Basically a technicians only “Eric the car guy” site.

I also think that even having a resolved button next to the thank you button would be fruitless, again cant get the people to come back to see and mark it if they don’t want to. And honestly if there is a solution to the issue on the forum who needs them to come back and say it worked? kinda like an internet FAQ, if you go out there and look for the answer then it doesn’t make sense to have people post saying it worked or not, after all it is just a step for fixing the issue and it obviously worked or they took it somewhere to be fixed.

I still do agree that it would be helpful and would help the contributors know if their advice was correct or not.

I appreciate the suggestion. In actuality, we had something of this type on the old site with the ‘traffic lights’. Even with that feature people still didn’t always participate. My point, you can make things as easy as you like but you really can’t make anyone do anything, especially on the internet.

                    Thanks again for your input.
