      I had the recalls for my 2001 Impala done today. This post is to show all of you who have 2000-2005 Chevrolet Impala’s what they do about the Ignition recall as well as the Engine fire recall on GM vehicles with the 3800 Series II V6 engines.

      KEYS:
      The GM IGNITION RECALL is fixed by the KEYS of the car NOTHING is dont to the physical ignition.

      Before Recall:

      They would NOT do the recall on the Axcess+ Key.

      AFTER RECALL:

      The recall involves putting a Insert into the key ring hole. The Recall also includes putting a divot in the key and attatching two 6mm Keyrings.

      ENGINE FIRE RECALL:

      AFTER:

      The recall involves replacing retainer clips for the plug wires.

        This is sarcasm, right? I get it.
        You did NOT know that GM has entire system of incentives to suppliers, based on “the cheaper the better” principle? Their customer service and recalls included?
        Cool post though. Like it. Bloody bastards. got them CEOs out of $$ loss with our all’s money…

          I dont believe this…. I just talked to the dealer last week about this recall on the 3800s and the fire issue, they said it didnt affect my car cause it wasn’t for all 3800s. Yeah right. Something tells me I need to call up a few other dealers.

            I recall my GM. Got rid of it 30 years ago. :cheer:

              I dont quite understand it myself. For starters the copied key (which came with the car) has the same keyring hole. Why did they say they wont touch it? The recall eould of worked for it too. And if anyone knows please do tell… How would modifying the key do anything? How could a ignition that is on the dash get “bumped” from run position?

                the 3800 series II fires where caused buy leaky rocker cover gaskets, this is largely due too the fact the manufacturer wanted to cut cost corners and used cheep gaskets that eventually lost there ability to seal oil over time. what happens is as the engine runs and oil leaks past the rocker cover gaskets and down the sides of the engine, in most cases the first warning you get is the smell of burning oil and light smoke as the oil smolders on the exhaust, then if you continue to ignore the warning oil can get on the hot exhaust manifolds in enough quantity and a fire can start.

                the issue is simply resolved buy replacing the rocker cover gaskets with new better quality rocker cover gaskets, have seen this myself and repaired this on several 3800s myself, luckily neither of them caught fire, I was able too catch them before they got bad enough to do so, the retainer clips are only a small part of the remedy.

                  Some vehicles get new blades, some get new locks and keys, and laser cuts get the blade removed from the fobik and a silverado blade.
                  Different models get different recall.
                  The figure the smaller hole will solve the issue of overloading the ring.
                  I’m not sure how one could bump the ignition but I do see a bunch of Chryslers with bent fobik blades.
                  I do the laser cut recalls for the Chevy dealers in my town and the cuts are now deeper down the blade making the key set in deeper.

                  The plug wire recall is a very old one.
