      I have a 2015 post-Dieselgate 2015 VW Golf Sportwagen with 17,000 miles.

It was purchased during a time when I was commuting around 120 miles a day; the diesel was awesome for that kind of commute.

Fast forward a year, and I find myself now with a vastly superior job with the State.. and they pay me more than my last position to work from home.

Herein lies my need for advice; the use case for this car has been eliminated. As of now, it slumbers in the garage until the weekend when it wakes up long enough to go get the groceries, do some puttering around town, and then back to bed.

As I understand it, this is actually quite bad for diesels in general and could damage the DPF and DEF systems over time as it won’t be getting a long haul of 30 minutes to burn out all the stuff in the particulate filter.

My question is this: Is this risk to diesels over short trips overblown, or is it a real concern? The car is paid for, so I could pretty easily get a big chunk off of something else.. or is it actually safe in this new use-case scenario?

I’d love your opinions on this.

      Cheers!
