Gears don’t shift till the Transmission oil is hot

Hi,

My Name is Sidney and I drive a 2001 Toyota Vista Ardeo D4 engine. Recently I noticed that when I start the car in the morning and drive away, it doesnt change gears till after a while when the transmission oil is hot. Then when I am in traffic, sometimes it delays for the gear to kick in and it feels like its in neutral then eventually the gear kicks in. Please help. I discussed with a few people and they told me that this issue is fairly common and when it happens they simply replace the transmission.

I don’t know any specifics on this transmission, but many manufacturers are getting very specific on the transmission fluids used?

Check the fluid level and condition. Any codes stored?

If the fluid is not low & no other obvious problem , I have to ask how many miles on the vehicle & since the transmission was last serviced ?

What does the fluid look like & smell like ? Burnt ? Taking a guess , but I would say it needs servicing . Maybe soon , before the transmission completely fails .
