Christmas Eve trip to South Carolina came with added bonus: $1.96 gas! Nothing like that in North Carolina – at least not yet. What are you seeing in your area?

A 1.96-2.00 around here. That’s pretty nice considering I live in the plains and everything around here is a fairly lengthy drive.

The downside is that I get a regular oil/gas royalty check from a well nearby and the check shrinks a bit with lowered demand.

Well, hitting a 1.86 today around here. Feels kind of strange (in a good way) to fill the car up on 25 bucks.

$1.86 is great. Around here (in central North Carolina) we have some stations at $2.17. I have to make quick trip to South Carolina at the end of the week so hoping to see well below $2 then. I heard on news today that barrel of oil at $53 which should eventually equate to even lower prices. “Experts” are now saying the lower prices will last for a while, maybe a whole year. Historically, drops like this have been related to a slowing economy, but, so far, it’s hard to see that happening. I don’t think it’s time to buy a gas-guzzler But let’s enjoy it (cheaper gas) while it’s “affordable.”

Lowest I saw today was $1.68 at some cheapo gas station. The kind of gas that makes your engine run like crap. It varied from $1.68 to $1.80 depending on the station.

It is nice right now but something is going to give. This is too good to be true, really.
It is kind of like if your wife says, “No, you do what you want” but you know the shit will hit the fan at some point.
Yeah I know, Alex Jones stuff there…

So with the prices like this, say they maintain for a few months, one has to wonder if people are gonna rush out and buy gas guzzlers? Hopefully not cause for real, this low gas price is NOT going to last.

There’s a lot of profit-taking going on right now. In South Carolina, where gas tax is low, you can pay $1.96 in some locations and $2.19 in other locations. I live in North Carolina, where the gas tax is 30-cents per gallon higher than South Carolina. Within a 30-mile radius I can buy name-brand gas for $2.12 (from mutiple stations in one general location to $2.43 (in another sections of town again at multiple stations). Less than 1 year ago, these stations would be within 10 cents of each other. With barrel of oil at say $53, the price should be well below $2. even with the gas tax. At 1.18 per litre, the price does not reflect the current cost of oil unless you have huge gas taxes. Any business needs to make a profit, but some of this is just price gouging and price fixing regardless of the net cost to the gas stations. But considering that crude oil pricing is not really free-market pricing based on supply and demand, then I guess I should expect nothing less. Having complained about that, I will add though that I am enjoying having relatively lower prices and I hope it continues but I also agree with others who have posted that this will not last.

NC has higher fuel taxes than surrounding states, it’s funny whenever I fill up in TN or VA near the state line, while it’s cheaper than in NC, it’s usually still one of the higher prices in the other state. It’s nice to be able to take longer and more frequent trips with this cheaper fuel, but I’m concerned what this price war’s impact will be on oil production / dependency.

I spent $1.75 per gallon at a name brand station here in San Antonio! Me and my wallet are liking this gas price slump a lot!
