Is it possible to perminantly fix a leaking fuel container with store baught products? Also, if a fuel tank requires replacement, what type would you recommend steel or plastic?

I have seen products that promise that they will fix leaks, even active ones.

Personally I am not a fan of them, gas leaks tend to make me nervous and I would likely buy a new fuel tank over trying to fix a bad one.

Sometimes a leaking fuel tank can be temporarily fixed with a bar of soap. You an rub the soap on the effected area and it might seal the leak. Only for a little while. As for plastic or metal. I would go with plastic if you live in an area where there’s a lot of rust.

The best store bought option is J-B weld, the area needing repair needs to be really clean and really dry, but it does work. J-B weld is a two part epoxy so you have to mix it to a grey finish and it takes a long time to dry but I have used it to seal fuel tanks and it works well.
