      Hey all,

I got a good deal on some Gabriel quick struts on amazon.com (for the rear of my 2.4L dodge stratus se sedan). After several weeks of driving on them, I’m starting to hear a clunk coming from the rear passenger side of the trunk when going over rough road. Even after emptying the trunk (even removing the spare tire and everything else) the clunking/noise is still there. It also happens when I bounce the rear of the car while parked. The rear ball joint and other rear bushings seem fine.

Is it possible I got a bad quick strut? Should I send for a replacement?

      Thoughts are appreciated. Thank you!

Personally I’ve never been a fan of Gabriel on anything but VW’s. That said, with quick struts it’s difficult to prime the struts before installation. Scratch that, it’s impossible without removing the spring. I’ve had a lot of issues with those struts and that problem because of not priming them first. Here’s what I’m talking about.

You’ll see in the video the ‘priming’ procedure.

In short, it may be a bad strut, or it may need to be primed. Not beyond the realm of possibility that it’s a bad strut.

Just in case, I’ll throw this in.

Good luck and keep us posted.
