You will be fine. That’s an old wives tale. You don’t have to buy the oil from the dealer, I have a 2008 Honda Civic LX with 116k miles that I’ve been using either shell synthetic or mobile 1 from Walmart whichever is cheaper and I have zero issues.

I actually looked into this a bit, because Eric has always been adamant that switching to fully synthetic after only using standard oil can cause leaks.

I would agree though that if the engine ALREADY leaks oil then

Keep in mind most products marketed in the US as Synthetic are actually blends of group III (“hyrdrocracked” petroleum) and group IV (PAO, true synthetic).

I hesitate to disagree with Eric, believe me, but I think that when I see an oil leak in an “older” engine after a switch to synthetic oil there are other culprits to suspect besides the switch._x000D_
It’s an age old problem with comparing one compon

No reason to use synthetic oil when you are flushing your oil every 5K miles.

I think if you look closely at the label you’ll find that it’s not ‘fully synthetic’ (I know for a fact the Honda oil is not full synthetic) as most synthetic oils are a blend of regular oil and synthetic oil.
