So I’m working on a bit of a project car, a 95 Plymouth Voyager. Reason I say project is because I was going to junk it but I was somehow convinced to keep it. So here is my issue…my rear brake lines rusted out and I found myself without brakes one day. The rear lines are right next to the tank hidden so you need to at the very least unbolt the tank to move it out of the way. There was however a full tank of gas in the car and moving it would have been quite a pain since I’m not really equipped to deal with such an oblong object. So I decided to drain some(all) of the gas out of the tank. I figured I was either going to junk the vehicle or fix it and either way the gas needed to be removed. So I used the electric fuel pump to pump all the fuel out of the tank.
I replaced the lines and bolted everything back up. I added about maybe 1/4 or 1/3 of a tank of gas and I noticed the fuel pump sounds like its just spinning and not sucking up fuel. I took the main fuel line off to find it wasn’t pumping anything..it was dry. Just to clarify, I AM hearing the electric fuel pump not only prime but run when I try to crank it over. I’m thinking I might have sucked up some contaminents in the tank by running the electric fuel pump. Any thoughts?
