Fuel injector (d16y8)

Hey everyone, I was wondering how to make sure a fuel injector on my d16y8 is really the cause of my #3 cylinder misfire. Injectors aren’t cheap, so I’d like to make sure my injector is the problem.

Car smells rich, smells like moth balls, idles rough, consumes fuel, and has a kinda has a hard time starting, I’d have to crank it twice and floor the accelerator.

      Any advice is appreciated.

Swap the no.3 injector with let’s say no.4 and check if the misfire will change its location too.

Will switching the injectors mean I may damage the o-rings?

Well if you are careful – not at all. U can swap them all day long no problem. Done that myself.

Have you had the same symptoms as I described in my first post? What was the problem?

Try doing a power balance test with the injectors.

LPG conversion. I had to remove the injectors to gain better access to the intake

That’s how I got to #3 fuel injector

Have your injectors tested on a test stand, because if that injector is leaking, fuel will go down in the oil pan and u will have problem much more serious than rough idle. Check your oil level often and if u see level is rising, that means fuel is leaking in it through that injector ( or may be more than one of them). The next thing that happens is oil gets washed away from grinding surfaces( bearings etc.) and complete engine failure.
On the other hand if the injector is clogged, then an ultrasonic bath will clean it.

Fuel injectors, the Achilles Heel of modern automobiles. They wreck a lot of engines. When a carburetor acted up it affected the entire engine and you knew something was wrong immediately. Fuel injectors should be a maintenance item./

listen to see if the injector is clicking. use a noid light
to see if your pulse is there.

Have a cylinder running lean with detonation = overhaul.
Have a cylinder running rich washing down the cylinder wall = overhaul

Anyway, I’m suggesting injectors should be pulled periodically and sent away for flow testing or they should be replaced. This is being done now but it is only being done by car enthusiasts. The rest of us are left expecting that injectors will work perfectly for the life of the engine or vehicle. If you think about it, that expectation is silly.

Honda fuel systems rarely have issues, especially the injectors. I would focus more on the ignition system or look for a fuel leak somewhere before I turned to the injectors. I would wager you have an ignition system problem that’s causing the issue. More info here.
