Fuel injector cleaning

Greetings! What type of connector is needed for fuel rail that does not have the typical style to hook a pressure gage to?
Do some of you have a preference to what type of cleaner to use in a pressure canister for injectors?
Just for info. I am wanting to clean my injectors on a 2000 zx2 Escort.(These have no port for pressure gage) I have been having high long term fuel trim of about 20% at idle. I am not finding vac leaks that I can find. I have been using a propane bottle with line checking all over anything that relates and no change in rpm. (tried carb cleaner also) I even changed the MAF sensor with same results. I am not having codes thrown as of yet. Only thing is happening is slight stumble taking off at stop sign after that, seems to run good.

Thanks for the reply Third Gear. I was thinking that must be how they hook them up with out the pressure gage port, but was not sure.
My fuel pressure according to my x-ray 6000 shows the pressure in the middle of range it calls for. I do have to admit, I would trust pressure gage better.

I have a fuel pressure test set that has about 100 adapters for just that reason as manufacturers seem to use a variety of hook ups for this. There is also a special cleaner that goes with this set that I use that works very well. Thing is it’s not really worth the investment to do on just your vehicle so you might consider taking it somewhere to have it done. Personally I haven’t seen any real results with stuff you pour in the gas tank and consider that if you pour a solvent in your tank you really just break up all the varnish in it and send it toward the engine to jam up the fuel filter, I much prefer using my special tool or equivalent over any in tank cleaner.

Thanks, Eric. I am afraid to try putting cleaner in the tank for just that reason. I had done that a number of years ago. Make a long story short, ended up taking tank out to clean, new filter, and replacing injectors with some used ones I saved back. Just in the name of cleaning the fuel system!
I am not really up on the system that this has, but know it is supposed to regulate flow with rpm’s. Only notice taking off at stop light.
I have a few more vac lines I have to change before I try any thing else. Third Gear has me wondering if I still may have a border line fuel pressure. I guess that maybe my next home work to figure out!

You will need to find an adaptor that connects to your fuel rail where the fuel line connects to it and be sure to remove the fuel pump fuse so it doesn’t spew gas everywhere. As far as the cleaner goes, I would use whatever the manufacturer of the cleaning kit says.

Your high fuel trims are more likely a fuel pressure issue rather than dirty injectors. I had this issue with my truck recently and it was indeed fuel pressure. The correct fuel pressure brought the trims from +16 down to +3 and restored some lost performance. Again, to test the fuel pressure you will need something that goes in between the rail and the fuel line since there isn’t a schrader valve.

If you suspect a fuel pressure issue that only way to really know is to take a fuel pressure reading and for that unfortunately you’re going to need that adapter and a fuel pressure gage to go with it.
