i have a 2009 chevy impala LS auto with around 73,000 miles on it.

lately ive been having the issue which mostly occurs when i shift from reverse into drive. at first it would feel like the tire would lock up, but not right when i shifted, the car would roll forward a few feet and then catch. Now ive started shifting and waiting, because i can hear something catching, then once the sound goes away i release the brake and drive and usually it doesnt catch.

there have been a few time where ive come to a stop, and then when i went again it would catch, but this isnt nearly as common.

i read that it could be the brakes but i took the tire off and the sliders looked good, but i put some more lubricant on it just for good measure. but of course that did no good for it.

im afraid this is a transmission issue, but im not really sure. if anyone has any information on the topic please let me know 🙂

        Any codes?

Have you checked the transmission fluid level? How old is the transmission fluid and filter?

Having asked that, it might also be brake-related. Perhaps the rubber flex line going to that wheel is breaking down internally, and is slow to release built up fluid pressure.

there are no codes on the car.

i checked the fluid the other day it seems to be pretty fresh and at the correct level, but im not sure how long its been in there. i bought the care maybe a year and a half ago and it hasnt been changed. when i got the car it had 58k miles on it, now its at 73k so i dont think its that, but it could be possible

are you sure about the brakes though? i would think if the brakes were having trouble releasing it would happen instantly, but if i dont let the car sit before going forward the car will roll forward a few feet before it catches?

I’d check out your brakes first, they’re the cheapest and easiest thing that could be causing this problem. Check out the rubber lines for degradation, take off the caliper and check the pads for uneven or unusual wear, pull out the floating pins and make sure they are lubed and slide nice and easily, check to see if the caliper is seized.

i checked the brakes already, i did not check the rubber lines, but everything else you mentioned i did check.
ill have the check the lines and see what condition they are in.

sorry it took so long, been very busy. i did check the line and it seems to be fine. does this mean its likely to be the transmission giving me problems? :/

Does sound like a tranny issue. Doesn’t happen from Park to Drive?

Not that I have noticed. Although on rare occasion it does happen at a stop light when I go to drive again. But it’s not nearly as frequent as when I go from reverse to drive
