I have a problem with my front disc brakes locking up, or actually freezing up on my 1997 Nissan Pickup. The truck was sitting for two years so that may be the problem.

Here is what I’ve done so far.

      1. replaced calipers and brake pads

      2. replaced brake hoses attaching to the caliper

      3. replaced the master cylinder

I’m thinking it may be the Power Brake Booster or some restriction in the brake line. What do you think?

      Thanks

check that the rears are adjusted.
have you bled the brakes all four?

The rears are adjusted properly and I just finished a complete brake job including the back and including bleeding all of the brakes to get all of the old fluid out. I was thinking it might be the Power Brake Booster, that’s about all that is left.

I had this happen to me once, the new master cylinder turned out to be a bad. It was an auto zone cheap made it china one, swapped it out and the problem was solved.

Here is something you can try. Remove the frozen caliper, but leave the hose attached. Try to push the piston back. Of course you should be able to. If it wont move, open the bleeder and try pushing the piston back. If it moves with the bleeder open, you have a restriction in the hose, line, or maybe the master cylinder. The only restriction I’ve seen was in the brake hose right at the metal bracket. Rust sometimes gets between the steel and rubber and pinches the hose shut.

Are both front calipers locking up? Maybe a faulty metering valve (if it has one) or the sliding pins on the calipers weren’t adequately greased?

this sounds like the all to common adjustment on the back of the master cylinder ? did you check that the rod on the back of the master cylinder was the same length as the one you took off ? or try and find out what it should be set too ? also if you disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose and block it off that should give you some indication of functionality (be carefull brakes are like non existant when you have no booster )

I used the same rod. I’ll check the Booster as you have shown. Thanks

This is exactly where I was going. If the pushrod is not adjusted correctly it will slightly apply the brakes all the time. You can actually check for this. Jack up the front end of the truck and spin the wheels. If you encounter a lot of resistance try loosening the fasteners at the master cylinder. If they spin freely after that then it’s likely the adjustment is wrong.

It’s not likely to be the booster as I don’t believe there is an adjustment there. It could also be the brake pedal height adjustment IF that’s adjustable on your vehicle.

                        Keep us posted.
