This is my first time on your forum… hope you can help/confirm a problem I am having with a grinding noise in the front end of my Grand Cherokee. First of all: 2000 Grand Cherokee Limited, 4.7 ltr, Quadra Drive. Has dual piston calipers for front brakes. I have a god awful grinding and “tinging” noise that occurs after a couple miles of driving… I believe I’ve narrowed down the suspect to the driver’s side brake rotor (found a 1/2 abnormal wear strip on the inside bottom of rotor with corresponding wear mark on the pad). I wasn’t sure what was causing this to happen (no debris or anything making contact that I could see when I removed the caliper), BUT I did discover a bad upper ball joint… really bad. Could this cause the tire/rotor to tilt enough to cause the noise and wear pattern I described?

      Thanks in advance

when you saw the groove on the rotor.does it match
up to the brake pad wear indicator.pull the pad and
check the wear indicator.also check the dust shield
is not bent into the rotor.

I checked the pads when I removed the caliper… still got about half the pad left… except the bottom rear corner area of the inner pad where the grooving is taking place. Nothing else is even close to making contact with the rotor.
