s with no pressure on the gas pedal. apparently the guy who had it before me had the ecu checked and the idle control valve( stepper motor) cleaned. it had a recent head gasket replacement. im assuming its not showing a fault on a diagnostic as the previous owners cousin is a mechanic and he cant work out whats wrong with it. any tips would be greatly appreciated. cheers.

I would tap on the IAC with the handle of a screw driver when the RPM’s jump up.
if the idle changes that part is suspect and should be changed. also make sure
the connector is clean and plugged in. You could also search for vacuum leaks.
follow the procedure in the video. instead of carb spray use a spray bottle with water

The first tip would be don’t buy it, I’m serious. In fact I’ve done a video on this very topic and if you’re in the states it may be hard to find a qualified mechanic if you can’t figure it out on your own.

That said anytime you have a performance issue you need to check the basics, spark, fuel, and engine mechanical and since someone has already gone in and done a head gasket I think the first step would be to go in and check all that work to make sure it was done properly then break it down system by system till you find the problem. Good luck.

Im thinking along the lines of a vacuum leak as well, the fact that it revs to 3k on its own leads me to believe that. Ive had a few cars do that very thing and it was a simple vacuum leak
