You can go to a pet store and get a dog crate liner to contain all the grease and oil mess of tearing down a transmission, lawn mower engine, driveline component, or whatever. The plastic they’re made of doesn’t like brake cleaner and will deteriorate over time, but you just can’t get these things from tool places it seems. Normally you’re supposed to have a special table with a drain built into it for this kind of thing, but you can just throw this tray up on your workbench and be conscientious about how much fluid expect it to hold.
The best part is that these things are normally stocked at all the petco/petsmart places and a 2’x3′ tray isn’t even $30. They come in many sizes that are incremented small enough to get one that fits your bench well.
Here is the one I’ve been borrowing from the tech next to me, which has been thru dozens of jobs before starting to crack along the edge causing it to leak a little. I bought one for myself and replaced his for about $40 the other day. They look just like this one except with a rolled edge instead of sharp.
