I have replaced this engine on a 1999 ford f150 and a 2009 ford f250 each time the replacement engine (salvage yard unit) have dead holes. i have never had such issues with GM engines not sure about dodge because i haven’t worked on many of them. From what i have seen i would have to label these as the worst engines ever made. what are your thoughts?

Well, they suffered with spark plug retention issues and with timing chain issues.
In fact many last model Ford have some serious timing chain problems.
I really like Ford, but many of their large overhead cam engines were problematic.
I think you must be unlucky. I have seen a dozen or more of them with well over 500000 on them. The newer 3 valve Tritons have more issues than the older ones however.

Ah yes the spark plug breaker engine.
Like I said they weren’t really bad motors, just had timing chain guide issues and had a bad habit of ejecting spark plugs if they were not installed correctly.
i think the Ford triton engines where ok, they had there issues, when i worked as a mechanic at stap brothers i literally experienced one of there legionary spark plug ejections… literally shot the spark plug out and the threads where stripped… the previous owner obviously did not install the new plugs correctly… really interesting experience driving a Ford F-150 with 7 cylinders…
