Well, I’ve been offered a job at a ford dealer in my town, the pay is reeeeeeeeeeeeeeal good, about 4 an hour more than what I’m making now. I really like my job a lot where I’m at now, but the pay, new building, and location seem like a win, one problem….I’ve been at a gm dealer for 6 years, I do work on a lot of non gm stuff, but basically I’m wondering how bad are fords to work on/diagnose?

I’m not scared of it, I just don’t want to get in over my head, I was offered the job because my adivsor and the manager tehre are friends and he talkls me up a lot, don’t want to dissapoint or not perform as well. I know new scanners/manuals/etc will take some time, but how’s the warranty side as well?

Four dollars an hour more flat rate? Or do you work hourly. Right now it’s been slow at my ford dealership a lot of stupid warranty work.

Fords are pretty easy to work on lol (I’m a GM Guy) Diagnosis wise you’ll love the IDS (Fords Scan Tool) prob the best manufacture scan tool out there in my opinion & the PTS website (ford’s technician website) is awesome as well. But just remember if you start at a new place you’ll have to start from the ground up until you learn Ford’s in and out. If you have any further questions let me know.

It’s comission, I went to lunch with the service manager friday, everything sounded wonderful until….oh by the way it’s a rotating shop…meaning you don’t have your own stalls. I pretty much told him at that moment, I appreciate the offer and lunch, but I’m not interested. Screw that

I hate not having my own lift. I did that when i first started out in the field it stinks beyond belief. I’m glad your gonna stick it out with GM since you have been there for a while.

              This is a good topic.

Does F*rd really mean Job Security?? I always figured that as long as they (F*rd) keep selling their pieces of shit, then F*rd techs will always be up to their eyeballs in ROs.

I’m a GM Lube Tech (I know, I know, no experience, no room to talk, bla bla blah), but I’ve seen 350K+ vehicles on my lift, in my stall. Some closer to 400K. banana:

I know a guy who works at the F*rd dealer, and he said he has yet to see one with over 250K miles.

Believe it or not I’ve seen 5.4L trucks and 4.6l up in the 250k-300k range and still going strong on a regular basis. I know a lot of people say fords cars stink and are POS. But there new ones are really nice and reliable. I’m not a ford fan boy (I’m a Cadillac guy) but the company has been doing really well for itself the past year. Just created i think 2k jobs in detroit that I saw in the news. And of recently they just up there stock divedend by.10 cents i know .10c doesnt sound like a lot but if the sock holders are getting a bump of there dividend i’m sure there in the + and doing well.

Let alone 2,803,397,653 Regular Common stocks
                70,852,076 Class B Stocks.

Giving .10c to every stock that an investor holds is big when your talking over 2 billion =-0. My thing is if the company is making so much money why am i only making $11.00 =-0

Me lol I’ll work if there’s RO’s on the desk. lol were averaging about 30 R.O’s a day scheduled and then about 5-7 walk ins a day. Like i said i’m not a ford guy. But hell I’ll take as many flat rate hours as they will give me.

When you work for ford as a technician and have some ford factory credentials. Ford gives you a username and password to use on there PTS website. You can do web based training, look up tsb’s, recalls, wiring diagram. Anything you would ever want to know about ford cars can be found on that website.

I know the feeling of not having your own lift.
