      Hey guys,

I was wondering if you guys could help me out. I have a ’96 Ford Taurus GL with the 3.0 liter Vulcan V6, and recently (it just started happening today actually) it randomly will not start (whether it’s start remotely, or by the key). If I give it a little gas while cranking, it will start but the engine sounds like it’s misfiring, but it does even out after a minute or so of running. It will start without me giving it any gas too, however a few attempts (about four or five. And again, once the engine does start it’s misfiring and barely can stay running. I told my Dad about and he said it may be from all the city driving I do, and suggested I take it on the highway for a few miles and “blow it out”. I didn’t get the time to do that today tough. So, I figured in the mean time I’d ask for other suggestion if that doesn’t work. Thanks in advance. 🙂 Oh, and also, there are no trouble codes yet (I guess the PCM doesn’t see this as a big enough problem yet).

Well it sounds like you have some kind of problem with fuel or compression. I would say first to see if you have the right kind of fuel (E-85 can do that to a car if it dose not take it) then see fuel pressure. You can also try a compression test to see if you have proper compression. See if any of that is any good.
        Good luck 🙂

There is a lot of possibilities, compression and fuel pressures are good places to start. my question is, does this happen when the engine is cold or warmed up, or will it do it either time.another area you may want to check is to be sure the maf sensor is clean as well as the throttle body valve. I also would check the cts to be sure it is working in the designed parameter.
This is only a few areas that need to be checked. Good Luck and keep posting.

I’d first start by checking for any check engine light codes. If you have any, repair those and recheck for the condition. If you don’t have any check engine light codes stored then look to the basics like tune up items. If you STILL have an issue you might check the operation of the coolant temperature sensor. If that’s not working correctly it can cause a no start/hard start condition. Keep us posted on what you find.

If the car has a fuel filter try changing it.

                Hey Guys,

First, I wanted to thank all of you who replied your suggestions were very helpful. I actually had to take my car in last week because I got myself stuck while I was trying to back down a narrow and steep driveway on a property that my Mom and I were looking at. 😳 Anyway, she insisted that I take it to the shop where her friend works to have underneath my vehicle checked (they do good work there, I had my passenger side wheel bearing done there). Just in case because there was rocks on the side of the driveway. Long story short, I mentioned to them that my car was having difficulties starting on occasion, and I also mentioned the suggestions that you guys gave me, and they told me they would check it out. So, after checking over both the under carriage of my car and checking all the thing you guys suggested, they said the only thing they found was that my spark plugs had quite a bit of carbon deposits on them. The first thing that Mark asked me was “Joe, how much highway driving do you do?” my response was, “Um, not much.”. That’s when he suggested that I take it on 209 for about three miles at 55 to 60 mph to clear out all the carbon build. Ever since I did that, my Taurus starts up fine every time. Thanks again for everyone’s help it was much appreciated! 🙂 Without you guys suggestions, I probably wouldn’t have known what to tell Mark, and my car would have probably been there overnight instead of just two hours.
