Ford ranger serpentine belt squeal

2 weeks ago I replaced the serpentine belt on my 4.0 V6 ford ranger. get up the next morning to got to work and the belt start squealing when i start it up then goes a way when I put it drive. Then when the heats is on and the fan is on it squeals again. when i got to work i took a look at it and the belt was wobbling by the tension er so i repeated it that day and it sit squeals. The head machine at my shop sad it my be the idler pulley, be it still wobbling by the tension er so it could it be the belt is to big or it is the idler pulley.

Thank you guys for your help. I hate to say it but the parts guy is to blame this one. He gave me the belt for the 3.0 not for the 4.0 that I have with AC. So it was a inch or 2 off from the new belt.

Any time i am about to change the parts on a vehicle for work, i usually put them side by side or for belts, stretch them both out to make sure there correct.

Good find. I’ve run into that myself a time or 2 and as a result I recommend checking the new belt length against the old before installation just to be sure.
