Hello, I have a persistent crank/no start situation with a 1997 Ford Ranger XLT, 4.0L V6 engine. It’s not a consistent problem, some days it doesn’t happen at all, some days it happens up to twice. We’ve replaced the battery, ignition coils and ignition cables and no luck fixing it. The way we get it started is just by pushing the truck, even if it doesn’t start while it’s rolling, after moving some distance it starts right up. Thanks for the help.

It is a manual, we put it in neutral, start pushing the truck and it’ll start right up once it gets up to speed.

Well, if your satisfied it has spark,, next is to check if the fuel pump is strong and consistent. It is possible for a fuel pump to be inconsistent when it’s starting to go. Remember it’s Earth (fuel), wind, and fire (spark) needed to run a gas engine.

Yeah it could be the fuel pump. I don’t really know, though. I would turn it to the run position and listen for the fuel pump to prime.
