Hi, I have a 2003 ford F250 super duty 4wd truck 5.4 V-8, here is the problem. While driving at no particular speed and at random times the ABS light will come on and at the same time the speedometer will drop to 0 then back up, the speedometer will do this rapidly a few times and as soon as the ABS light goes out the speedometer returns to normal operation, if you are not looking at the dash you would never know this occurred , there are no outer signs of this problem except one, when driving at night, the headlights will have the slightest of a flicker when the ABS light comes on.It does not make a difference if it is raining /wet or not.The truck does not show any codes, and other than this it runs great.
      What I have already tried.
1.Had the ford store hook their computer to it, they said that it only showed that the ABS light was coming on…(DUH) their solution was to drive it until something else happens.
2.I replaced the speed sensors on both left and right wheels.
3.I replaced the speed sensor on the rear differential.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks P.P

It’s just a guess but possible a connection is a little iffy to a speed sensor. I might try checking the wiring. Maybe there will be visible signs of corrosion or wear. You could also try a voltage drop test at the speed sensors.

there might be a bad ground somewhere that happens to be the same ground for both the ABS and the speedometer.

Wheel speed sensors do not effect your dash speedometer operation. They can cause the ABS light to come on however. That said, your problem seems electrical in nature. Perhaps it has something to do with the instrument cluster given that there were no ABS codes stored. I’d do what I can to get my hands on a wiring diagram for the cluster to see what circuits are connected between the ABS light and the Speedo. If there is a connection inside the cluster itself, this could be the problem.
